Geocaching on Whidbey Island
October 21, 2002
Jeff took a day off, and we spent a fun time on this island in the Puget Sound. You can see the map of our day-long trip below.
We took the ferry across the water, then started at the south end of the island. We finished up at the northern tip, where we drove across a bridge to get back to the mainland and head home.
Langley + A Dog Park: the town of Langley is really cute, with lots of B&Bs on the beach.
Double Bluff Beach: One of those beaches with "flats" of sand, lots of driftwood, and nice autumn colors on the bluffs and hills above.
Colonel Ebey's Beach: One of Cindy's favorite spots ever, this is on the rain shadow side of the island (the Olympics are across the water to the west). It was sunny, dry, with prairie land on top of the bluffs overlooking the ocean. This is a great place to watch the ships pass through the Strait of Juan de Fuca (there's even an identification sign to help).
Deception Pass Bridge: A beautiful spot, and we got some great photos of the sunset over the water. However, it's very noisy (the highway and bridge cross at this northern point).
