Hiking to the Beach, Part II
A Hike in the Woods and Along a Small Salmon Stream
Continuing on the 1-Mile Hike Down
This is one of the streams that meander alongside the trail. In some spots, there are benches to sit and enjoy nature (they're also strategically placed for people to rest as they make their way back up).
Near here we found the first clue for the final coordinates of the geocache.

We could tell the beach was closer -- the path flattened out, and we could see more and more sky through the trees.
Jeff and Aurie are almost to the end of the trail here.
The trail comes out at a very nice picnic area -- lots of tables, a ranger station, even a volleyball net. As you can see, there weren't many people here (that's the advantage of having to hike a mile to get to something).
Here's the covered table area, the net, and the ranger station, against the backdrop of a forested ridge.
The ocean is just on the other side of the railroad tracks (the raised area). We just had to go through the short tunnel (and it was really short....Jeff had to bend over to keep from bumping his head).
Next: Through the Tunnel and To the Beach
