Hiking to the Beach, Part III

Through a Tunnel, Out on a Puget Sound Beach, Then Back Through the Tunnel Again!

And Here's the Water!

The mist was still rising out on the islands, but it was a spectacular view of the Sound. This is the tidal area, with lots of slick seaweed on the stony beach.

Jeff stopped to get our second clue (from the beach information sign).

Then he sat at the picnic table on the beach (how convenient!) and made some final calculations.

Cindy and Aurie explored some of the beach while Jeff worked on the clue.

We were going to be leaving a travel bug behind, so we took photos for Pecan Bear's Travel Log.

This picture is Pecan posed in front of a salmon stream. It's pretty shallow, so I'm not sure how the salmon get into it (perhaps when the tide is higher?), but it seemed like a good spot for a bear.

Then we headed back through the tunnel again, this time in search of the geocache itself.

Jeff finds the general area of the cache, and we start looking.

Cindy clung to trees and craned around to find the geocache. It was stashed behind a tree and under a LOT of foliage.

Please note the nasty nettles in front of the cache -- we're starting to get used to them (which means we watch more closely to avoid the stings).

We left Pecan Bear and took another travel bug -- Scumbug. He's journeying the world in search of Ninja Turtles.

Here he is posed on our deck (at the end of the day) with a few turtles rounded up. Yeah, it's a silly shot, but it's one of the things you post in the travel bug journals.

The cache and (once again) Cindy's foot.

Once that was done, we went back to the beach to enjoy lunch (some apples we had in our pack) and the wonderful beach.
